The Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) realizes how important privacy is to our friends and site visitors. We have implemented the following policy to tell you about your choices regarding the use of your personal information online. This policy describes what types of information we gather about you, how we use it, and your rights to update or correct it.
Information We Collect
CLI gathers certain broad information about web site use including the number of unique visitors, the frequency with which they visit, and the programs and services preferred. We look at the data in summary form, rather than on an individual basis. We gather this information so we can learn how many people visit CLI sites, which pages are the most and least viewed, and to identify which web sites are referring visitors to our sites. The data helps us determine the extent to which people use certain parts of our web site. Thus, we use this information to help us in restructuring sites to better meet public needs.
We accumulate lists for communications and marketing purposes only to those who elect to receive such information. You may ask us to remove you from this list by (1) email to email@example.com, (2) phone: (202) 223-8073, (3) or letter to us at Charlotte Lozier Institute, 1707 L Street, NW, Suite 550, Washington, DC 20036
You may be required to provide personal information, including your name, email address, home address, work address, or telephone number. Should you request particular services, you may be asked for additional information such as your billing address, credit card number and expiration date. For example, we may ask for information so that we can process a donation, create an online account or register you for one of our events. We store this information to provide service for your account. This information may also be used to evaluate and improve services and programs we offer to the public.
There will also be opportunities for you to provide us with additional information regarding your preferences and interests. This information, however, is not required and is completely optional on your part.
Control of Personal Information
CLI also uses your information to send you notices in the mail or by email about special benefits and updates. If you do not wish to receive these mailings, you can: (1) opt-out of email lists immediately by following the instructions at the bottom of the email, (2) email: firstname.lastname@example.org, (3) phone: (202) 223-8073, (4) or letter to Charlotte Lozier Institute, 1707 L Street, NW, Suite 550, Washington, DC 20036
Cookies are small pieces of text stored on your computer’s hard drive by a Web server. Charlotte Lozier Institute uses session cookies to identify your computer during a particular surfing session. We do not store personal or sensitive information in cookies. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or to deliver viruses to your computer. Most web browsers provide you the ability to accept or decline cookies, as well as to be warned each time a cookie is being sent.
The Charlotte Lozier Institute collects and analyzes traffic on our web site by keeping track of the IP addresses of visitors. IP addresses are unique numeric identifiers that are assigned to each computer browser accessing the Internet. An IP address, by itself, cannot identify you personally. However, when combined with other information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your IP address can be used to identify the computer originating a message.
This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that the Charlotte Lozier Institute is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
CLI takes every precaution to protect our users’ information. When users submit sensitive information via the website, it is protected both online and off-line. When our donation form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry – SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to unlocked, or open, when you are just “surfing.” While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All of our users’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices and the offices of our service providers. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information. All employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.
